Faithfulness in a Multi-Faith World |
Union-PSCE Richmond, Virginia |

 |
Karen-Marie Yust, associate professor of Christian Education, Union-PSCE
What is one concern that all religious traditions have in common? They all seek to nurture children and youth in the beliefs and practices of their faith community. From the nurturing practices of other traditions, Christians can learn ways of engaging our own young people more fully and effectively in exploring and living out their faith. Participants will discover how other traditions use storytelling, rituals, acts of justice, cultural resistance, and other common methods to form children’s religious identity. Not only will this help us hone our own methods, it will give us greater appreciation for the wisdom of other traditions and our ability to partner with one another in caring for the spiritual lives of children and youth. |

Springtime Writers’ Retreat
Got a story waiting to be written? A poem? A children’s book? An article or sermon? Maybe you simply need some time to get your thoughts in order, to let your work take shape before you begin. Or maybe you are stuck in the middle of a writing project and need to get going again. This retreat is for all who write or want to write. You will have plenty of free and uninterrupted time to think, reflect and write, as well as opportunities to discuss your work with other participants and writing instructor Sharon Niederman.
Each day, the group will meet for breakfast, map out goals and strategies for the day, and discuss any questions or issues being worked on. The remainder of the day is available to write, meditate, hike, reflect, walk, rest, or simply enjoy the beauty of springtime at the center. Evenings will be devoted to discussions of issues related to writing and sharing writing for those who wish to do so.
Sharon Niederman is an award winning New Mexico author, journalist and photographer. The author of six non-fiction books, Sharon has made her living as a writer for 15 years and published thousands of articles in regional and national publications. Her debut novel, Return to Abo, published by the University of New Mexico Press, was a finalist for the 2006 Willa Literary Award in Contemporary Fiction.
