Here are some notes from my pals at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va.:
» We love music of all kinds … not just religious music. We like jazz, Broadway, folk, and big band and … yes, even rock-n-roll!
» We are serious about our bridge, golf, bingo and puzzles and we play to win.
» We are still learning. Some of us have even mastered our computers and IPhones! Come and share what you have learned!
» We do want to get to know you and we will share with you our opinions just like your parents do.
» We wish that we were younger, but we would not give up the life we have had to be young again.
» Aging is not easy and we had no idea how hard it would be, but the alternative is not acceptable.
» We have more to give to this world. We volunteer regularly. Invite us to come to your church for activities, concerts, cookouts and mission trips. We love to join in the fun.
Thank you to the Sunnyside residents for teaching me so much over these last several years! I promise to remember, to cherish you and to pass on the wisdom and faith you have given to me and so many others who have come to know you as we walk together.
