Calvin and Scripture

Wrote this on Facebook (Calvin 09 - Reading the Institutes): Watching Calvin and his "opponents" throw Scripture at one another reminds me of the current Presbyterian struggles - and why do we believe that "my Bible verse is bigger and better than your Bible verse," and, to boot, "I understand it better than you do!"? I don't think God will ever allow anyone to "vanquish" another through Scripture quotation. So, are we doomed to a stand-off conflict, each hurling their favorite Scriptures at one another? Or is there another means of sustaining the Body of Christ? Does 1 Corinthians 13 love have any bearing on this? - Tom Eggebeen
