As a member of one of the very few churches in the John Knox Presbytery that belong to the "Confessing Church" movement I'm confused. I thought that the General Assembly Permanent Judicial Commission ruled last Feb. 11th that, "the fidelity and chastity standard may only be changed by a constitutional amendment. Until that occurs, individual candidates, officers, examining and governing bodies must adhere to it." It described the "fidelity and chastity" provision as "a mandatory standard that cannot be waived." So why are we at this point? - Frank Frieberg

I am very disturbed by the direction of the PC(USA) in regards to the ordination of LGBT. I have read Scripture and the Westminster Confession as well as the church's Statement of Faith and none of these say anything about compromising Scripture for our current culture. God is immutable; therefore, His Word is immutable, for all times and everlasting. Personnally, I feel the PC(USA) is compromising Scripture. And, I find it reprehensible that our denomination would be voting on SIN.
Sin is sin, no matter what you call it. In Scripture, homosexuality is grouped with other sins. Are we then to allow adultry, murder and other "abominations"? Homosexuality in a "life partnership" is nothing more than unrepentent sin. Everytime they engage in sexual activity they are continuing to sin. As homosexuality is grouped with others sins, all are in need of repentance and turning from sin. Jesus said, "Go and sin no more". If the church sanctions this, they are then keeping sinners from repenting and beginning a new life (born again) in Christ. It is with a compassionate heart that I would counsel any brethren to ask God for forgiveness, to repent, and to go and sin no more. I would do this because to do otherwise may lead their soul to damnation.

Scott's responses reaffirm the qualities that he has always demonstrated - that of a compassionate, caring servant whose dedication to Biblical scholarship is surpassed only by his steadfast love and commitment to people. The church in general and our denomination in particular can be grateful that such a person is willing and able to serve among us. - Steven Hammond
